| 🍇 Introduction

── ⋅ ── ⚙︎ ── ⋅ ──

The Spy is the main antagonist of Bewilthred. Ambitious, eccentric, and competitive, Spy puts his all into becoming the best Omne recruit he can be. He’s the warrior’s “sworn enemy” (despite them forgetting he’s even there half the time) and is constantly running into them on every single one of his missions as an Omne captor.

Since he was a child he’s been expected to be better than the best, so he’s currently staking all of his self worth into a project set to bring back an ancient power. A very familiar ancient power, one that the warriors have themselves, a symbol. Wanting nothing more than the approval of the Omne founders, Spy is half-completing his designated missions and half-searching for the viable resources to create his “Machine” which he swears will impress everyone so deeply they’ll practically be at his feet apologizing for the ways they’ve treated him all these years.

However, despite Spy’s boastful remarks and short-sighted plans, anyone who takes a closer look can tell he is so thoroughly insecure. He wants so badly to feel worthwhile after being in Omne’s system that rejects those who fail to achieve everything and more.

If people saw who he really was and gave him a chance, maybe he’d finally have the room to be himself, to be happy.

But for now, he continues following his misguided plan. He may pretend he’s the bad guy, but if someone were able to show him the way, would he really be so cold-hearted?

For now, it seems unclear, but maybe his thought-to-be sworn enemy might just give him a chance.

| 🍇 Before The Story

── ⋅ ── ⚙︎ ── ⋅ ──

Warnings: Abuse (Physical, Verbal, Emotional), Neglect, Child Abandonment

Despite popular belief, Armonian residents and Omne recruits aren’t so different. Well, that is in how they’re acquired at least. Like Armonia, all Omne recruits have a sad underlying tragedy to their recruitment. Every single Omne recruit started out as an abandoned child one way or another, except while Armonia took residents in to become members of society, Omne took members in to train them to be soldiers for a cause all of them are too young to even fully grasp the repercussions of.

Spy was one of these children. Though the circumstances of his acquisition were unique, to say the least. On a rare occasion for the Omne founders, they went out on an individual expedition together to an abandoned Rifter planet to potentially take it as an Omne territory. They presumed like most Rifter planets, conflict led to the inhabitants fleeing after being attacked by an opposing force. After Anya found a bunker in one of the uninhabited homes, they went inside expecting an enemy. To their surprise, they instead found a boy.

The only survivor of the planet, the boy had been essentially living on his own for months. When Andromeda prompted for a name, the boy didn’t respond. It took further digging in the home to figure out the boy’s identity. “Elias Aphelion” was the maskerettan boy’s name. He was only 5 years old. Andromeda explained to him the fantastical origins of Omne, essentially dumbing down the recruitment offer in a way a kindergartener could understand. Of course, it wasn’t really an offer if it was the only option given to him besides staying on this planet alone forever. So, “Elias”, who would later rename himself to Spy, decided to come back with the Omne founders. This single decision would change the course of his life forever.

Spy was taken to Congeria, Omne’s settlement for training recruits who aren’t old enough to be at Omne’s Main Station yet. However on Congeria a key issue arose, Spy was too “old” by most Congerian standards to be properly taken care of by a “Caretaker”. Caretaker in quotations of course, as by this point all Congerian Caretakers had been replaced by robotic counterparts. Spy was capable of feeding, clothing and bathing himself, he had been doing so while completely isolated. As a result, Spy was essentially pushed out of that opportunity and given a different figure to latch onto for guidance.

From the moment she found him, Spy attached himself to Anya the most. Likely the result of not properly remembering his real parents, Anya filled that void in Spy’s mind. While Anya wasn’t thrilled about the idea of having this elementary schooler following her around and looking towards her for guidance, it wasn’t like she was really stopping him either. Whether or not she likes to admit it, Anya allowed Spy to get closer, to get attached.

As he grew older, Anya essentially became Spy’s mentor. That isn’t to say she was a good one though. The two carry a toxicity to their dynamic. Spy gives his entire self to Anya, and gets next to nothing back. Anya fears vulnerability, but she sees a great deal of herself in Spy. As a result, the two have a “push and pull” dynamic. For a silver of a second, Spy will catch a moment of warmth and connection with Anya and start to believe there’s hope, only for her to shove him away just as he gets comfortable. Though Anya thinks she’s “doing what’s best for him”, Anya is far from a good figure in Spy’s life. Her influence is a huge part of why Spy carries the issues he does now.

Despite this “mentorship”, Spy was almost entirely on his own socially for almost all of his childhood. His eccentric personality and perceived jealousy from his attachment to Anya led to him only really having her to rely on for emotional support or guidance on who to be. Thus, Spy dedicates his entire existence into being the best Omne recruit possible. He carries a deep seated fear that there is something fundamentally wrong with him that has made him so hard to be loved by others, and compensates for it through hundreds of academic achievements. The cut-throat environment of Omne’s education bred a fear of vulnerability and weakness like no other. All that mattered was that you contribute something to Omne, and if you can’t provide everything and more, you will be left behind. Without others' approval, you are practically worthless.

If Spy could only be loved if he was the best, then he would be the best. So, he worked for it. He worked himself beyond his limits, training as hard as he could to work his way to the top. However the same cycle persisted, no matter the achievement he was looked over all the same. After an explosive argument with Anya that led him to stumble into The Reaper’s Ruins however, he found what he believed to be the thing that’d truly prove himself once and for all.

While in The Reaper’s Ruins, Spy found information on an ancient power, Symbols. Each of the Keepers had a core power after all. Chaos was his ability to turn people eternal, Divinity’s was his future sight, and Peace’s was to enhance the abilities of a mortal through a Symbol. Spy believed he could create a machine to replicate Peace’s ability using materials he had found in The Reaper’s Ruins as guidance. All he would need to do is construct the thing (which was easy, he was a mechanical prodigy after all) and find the necessary resources. The necessary resources, of course, being universal essence.

If Spy could get his machine to work, anyone in the entire universe could gain something akin to a super power. You want the ability to fly? Super speed? A symbol could provide all that. If this went right, he could finally get the recognition and love he deserved. Thus, a new persona formed overnight. "The Spy" was a cunning mastermind that could take on anyone. Under this new name, he felt he could achieve anything. He would show them. He would show them all they were wrong for never believing in him.

He just had to have some faith.

| 🍇 Act 1

── ⋅ ── ⚙︎ ── ⋅ ──

Right before Bewilthred’s Story begins, Spy had been practicing for Omne’s annual Placement Exam. However, his attention was admittedly split between that and developing his machine. While Spy’s initial pitch to the Omne Founders was a complete disaster, being denied and told his idea was outlandish wasn’t enough to end his dream. He kept working on his machine in secret, or about as secret as his showy self could be. It wasn’t until a confrontation with Anya the night before Placement Day though that things started to truly take a turn for him.

On that night, Spy was making progress on his machine as usual, and Anya caught him still up. Spy attempted to convince Anya again, as he had tried thousands of times, that his machine was worth believing in. Anya just tried to get Spy to go to bed. Tomorrow was a big day after all. However, Anya made a key mistake when she accidentally stepped on the remote of the machine, activating it pre-maturely. As the essence in the machine caused the rules of reality to begin to bend and break, objects began to float, and alarms rang throughout Omne Main Station signaling something was very wrong.

Triggering the machine had also triggered the annual Riftening, an event caused by an intense instability in the universe. Rifts all over the universe began opening up, additionally causing earthquake-like shakes on multiple planets. While Spy wasn’t clued in on his machine being the cause of this, this stunt led Anya to make the decision that despite Spy succeeding in his Placement Exam, he would be positioned as the lowest position for an Omne recruit, a captor. Furthermore, despite being gracefully given his own ship, the team he was set to lead were…let’s say, the bargain bin of Omne recruits.

“The League of Chaos” is what Spy calls his captor team. Excluding Spy, the team’s made up of an apathetic teenager, her confused older brother, a narcoleptic moth, and…whatever Lukaiyo is. These comically incompetent teammates of his are definitely beyond your typical fixer-uppers, but Spy isn’t a person to give up. So, on his first captor mission, he remains optimistic. Sure, his team could be better, and he absolutely should’ve been a commander from his Placement Exam alone, but he was going to do his best. After all, what else could he do?

What Spy could’ve never anticipated however, is that on that fateful first mission of his he would meet what would become his sworn enemies. The Warriors of Peace. Led by Lia (or as he calls her, Cross), right as Spy is preparing to claim his first proper victory it is snatched away from him, with his teammates abandoning him being the salt in the wound. Being defeated in such a humiliating way made him swear to get his revenge somehow. To him, this encounter meant war. He would not let his ego be disgraced by these so-called “Warriors”, and especially not by this “Cross”. To him, they were only things standing in the way of getting what he wanted. And unfortunately for the Warriors, if Spy is known for anything, it’s for giving every minute thing his all.

No matter what, he swears to settle the score.

"I know exactly what I want and who I want to be!"

| 🔪 Introduction

── ⋅ ── ⚙︎ ── ⋅ ──

On first impression, Spy is ambitious, eccentric, and incredibly competitive. Spy strives to do the best at everything he does. Fueled by a fervorous determination, Spy stops at nothing to prove himself when challenged. Taking great pride in what he can achieve, Spy projects a grandiosity that is almost comical in how it is presented. From tailoring his own clothing, to crafting this sort of “mastermind” persona, Spy is far from a boring individual. The boy knows exactly what he wants and who he wants to be. Or at least that’s what he’d tell you. As beneath this extravagant performance mimicking a personality is a lonely child reeking of insecurity and self hatred.

Spy lives off the approval of others. He loves denying it, but it’s obvious with everything he does. His so-called “confidence” lacks a true belief in his own ideas. While Spy can recognize his worth at a surface level, as he does see the value in what he can provide, he cannot see his intrinsic worth as a person beyond his achievements. So, he looks to others to give him the answers. Anya, the rest of the Omne Founders, and anyone he feels is respectable becomes not a mentor or a friend but a person that must be impressed by him. If he doesn’t stand out, why would anyone waste their time on him?

Additionally, despite his outgoing nature, Spy struggles with a deep sense of loneliness. Most of Spy’s free time is divided between Omne work and his machine, with very few allotted moments for him to find anything close to an intimate connection. Even if he did have the time, his fear of being pushed away for his “weird” personality would stop him before he was even given a chance to fail. A failure is the worst thing you can be at Omne after all, he could never let himself become one. Spy truly believes the path he's on is destiny. He puts all his faith in the idea that his machine will prove everyone wrong in what they thought about him. No matter what reality tells him, he has to believe he’ll always come out on top, even if he has to recklessly throw himself into danger to be seen by those he admires.

Though Spy is intelligent in terms of inventing, his emotional regulation is severely lacking. He allows his pride and spite to overwhelm him, which clouds his judgement and leads him to make impulsive self sabotaging decisions just to feel as if he were ahead for a mere moment. Everything, to him, is a competition, and he will absolutely not do things half-assed. Furthermore, the idea of even letting people see a fraction of the emotional instability and vulnerability shakes him to his core. He uses his mastermind facade as a shield to hide his sensitive nature and repress the pain he feels from being constantly criticised.

Most of Spy’s key points of learning throughout the story is learning how to feel worthy as he is without needing to prove it. Spy’s need for external validation unfortunately makes for one of his biggest weak spots. While he loves to play up a sort of cartoony “villianous” image of himself, Spy’s inner morals prevent him from really doing any true harm to others. The truth is, he just wants to be paid attention to, not hurt people. So you could imagine that this soft spot of his can easily be turned against him if recognized by the wrong people. The merest sliver of flattery would be enough for Spy to go above and beyond to repay an individual who would even bat an eye at him. If the right people were to recognize this however, maybe then Spy would finally see the flaws in Omne’s system and begin to make a better life for himself.

| 🔪 ACT 1

── ⋅ ── ⚙︎ ── ⋅ ──

Spy is objectively at his most polarized in Act 1. Coming off the heels of multiple series of unfortunate events, Spy’s already floundering emotional regulation skills go into overdrive especially when the warriors are involved. He develops a strong one-sided rivalry in his head with Cross (Lia) who he envies greatly. To Spy, Lia is everything he can’t be. Strong, leaderly and kind, Spy would kill to be in her shoes. Omne’s environment primes what should be admiration and the possibility of a friendship to become a point of shame and jealousy. Spy spends a majority of Act 1 toiling with the question of why. Why her? Why does she, who only is where she is via pure luck “prophecy”, get to have everything he has worked so hard for? Why does he have to work himself to death just to get a chance at being under the spotlight? The answer to that question unfortunately will have to wait until he isn’t in Omne’s environment.

Throughout all of Act 1, Spy truly emphasizes his role as a "villain" in the warrior’s story. Though don’t get it twisted, Spy is about as conniving as a mischievous baby kitten. He is much more interested in having a playful back and forth with the warriors rather than actually bringing them any harm. While he does carry an extent of envy and jealousy, in the warriors he finds a strange sort of kinship. They’re one of the closest things he has to friends, really. They actually see him as worth their attention at least some of the time, and find things such as his ability to make his own weapons actually interesting. Most importantly, through the warriors, Spy is given a lens outside of Omne. Lia especially, through her insistence to give him a chance, is able to show Spy that there is a world where he can be loved without needing to prove his worth. In fact, it may be closer in reach than he may think.

Spy’s main learning point in Act 1 is beginning to take those first steps to leave Omne’s harmful environment. When Spy opens up and starts to let people like Lia in, he begins to see the fractures in the ideology he had been raised under. Despite what his persona would suggest, Spy is not a bad guy. When he is properly shown the impact Omne has on people and how the warriors are later negatively punished for even slightly going against their ways, he’s able to gain the courage to finally do what is right. Though certain forces may try to manipulate him and exploit his vulnerabilities for their own desires, Spy in the end chooses to accept a world that could love him back. It is by believing that such a world could ever exist for him outside of Omne that he starts to change and become a better person. While he has a long, long way to go and years of toxic teachings to deprogram, he will find a way.

Like I said, Spy is not the type of person to give up easily. Perhaps with the warriors help, he’ll find people who won’t give up on him either.

🍇 personality

Enemies

Spy and Lia’s relationship is…a strange one. The two meet after a battle during Spy’s first ever captor mission, and Spy has declared them “sworn enemies” ever since. However, Lia has a hard time viewing Spy as a foe. She often forgets he’s placed that label on her at all. Despite Spy’s jealousy, the two have a relationship that is more playful than anything else. Their rivalry, although one-sided, is viewed as important to the both of them, albeit in different ways. Their relationship is weird, but is foundational to many events of the story, and how the two will end up developing overtime. Who knows, maybe one of these days the two might be friends…however it seems Lia and the rest of the WOP are stuck dealing with Spy’s strange shenanigans for now.
As Act 1 progresses, Lia starts to learn fragments of Spy’s life. Getting glimpses into how Omne works and how it’s been affecting Spy inspires Lia to try to invoke change in him. She believes deep down, there is potential for him to switch sides and realize the reality of who he’s really working for. You could say Lia sees a bit of herself in Spy, given both have insane expectations placed on them and are forced to play certain roles to keep the affection of their caregivers, and wants the best for him despite what happens. Is it weird to care about someone you’re supposed to hate? Maybe…but nothing about either of them has ever been normal before, they’re certainly not going to change it now. Perhaps understanding each other isn’t as out of the question as they thought…

Spy and Anya have a toxic push and pull mentorship that is probably so nuclear it’d fit right in with chernobyl in how bad it is. Anya, who already carries decades of abandonment and vulnerability issues, does not give a fraction back of what Spy gives to her on a daily basis. Spy is practically begging for her approval, as she’s the only real consistent person in his life. Anya pushes Spy hard, to a point beyond what even regular recruits are forced to endure. Their personal connection makes the burden of living up to Omne’s expectations even harsher for Spy. Spy forever feels indebted to Anya and the Omne Founders for “saving” him, but the reality is that the longer he stays with them the more damage he will have to endure. Anya can pretend that she doesn’t care for Spy, but the reality is that she sees a bit too much of herself in him and even depends on him when she is at her lowest. In a twisted way, she loves him like she would her own child, but not all “love” is created equal. Even so, who’s to say she wouldn’t abandon him at the first sight of danger to herself. Their dynamic is way too unstable for Spy to rely on her for anything. If anything’s going to kickstart Spy into realizing the error of his ways, removing himself from Anya would be the first place to start.

🔪 trivia + memorable quotes

Something tells me he might not only be a character in Bewilthred’s story. I’ve heard some rumors he might actually have a boyfriend some people might recognize…

He used to be a stupid twisted villain that was just plain evil. In fact his old personality could basically be described as a reddit mod stereotype. Actually evil alternate universe. Something tells me if you want to visit this alternate self there’s a page for it…

His main interests are symbology/universal history, machinery, and weapon construction.

His favorite drink is grape juice. Specifically the kids juice box ultra sugary kind. It’s why he’s known as the “grape man” by Kai.

Adding onto that, in a meta sense his whole grape thing came from one of my friends at the time seeing a picture of him and misspelling “spy grape” as “soy grape”. Meaning I am grape in Spanish, LOL. From that moment on Spy’s been associated with grapes forever.

I actually used to hate him with a passion before he became who he is now. Hilarious considering how things turned out, cause he’s pretty obviously one of my favorites!

He is the first person to ever have a man-made symbol, as a result his symbol has some uh…special traits! What that means is for you to figure out <3
