| 🗡️ Introduction

── ⋅ ── 𓄹 ── ⋅ ──

Eira Morozov is a later deuteragonist of Bewilthred. Reclusive, quiet, and ever elusive, the best way to describe Eira would be to state what they are to most, a mystery. Known by the general population as either a complete stranger or under their previous moniker “The Beast”, Eira has fine tuned for themselves a life of solitude. This was never out of choice, however. Eira’s trust in people has been tested time and time again to the point they can’t trust a single person can come to them without a bit of fear in their eyes. It is only with the warriors that these past wounds can begin to heal.

Though they are introduced later in Bewilthred’s story, they serve as a strong mentor figure for all of the warriors. They take the WOP in after a major story event, and from that the warriors have to put together the pieces of Eira’s past…and figure out why they keep trying to push Hanabi away.

Could it be…they knew each other before?

Only one way to find out.

| 🗡️ Before The Story

── ⋅ ── 𓄹 ── ⋅ ──

A common misconception about the Keepers is that they can create life. Given their positions in the universe, it is a reasonable yet misguided assumption. The reality is that most beings in the universe originated from a spark of complete chance. The first living things in the universe (besides basic bacteria and what not) would become known as “wanderers”. They have this name for their nature of wandering about from planet to planet. They used universal rifts, which were commonplace considering the widespread instability in the newly formed universe. Eira was one of these wanderers. While they don’t know the exact circumstances of their creation, they are far from a “typical” wanderer. While most wanderers are fairly basic, sticking to one species or so, Eira seems to be a hybrid of some sorts. This proved to be a problem for them later down the line, but at this point Eira was more focused on dealing with the loneliness that comes with being born a wanderer.

Unlike eternals created by Chaos, Eira was naturally made to go through their existence in this state. Their perception of things like time are adjusted in order to keep them from going completely insane considering the many years they've lived. Additionally, their mental/physical development adjusts based on emotional milestones rather than biological ones. The most notable feature of all eternals is their immortality. So, for the first few years of Eira’s life, they wandered planet to planet hoping to find another soul like themselves.

…On one fateful expedition, Eira encountered a bug-like being in the same boat as they were. While Eira had startled from the initial encounter, once they’d got to talking Eira figured out the individual's name was “Hanabi”. The two of them decided that it’d stupid venturing alone, so they decided from then on to be travel partners. Together, the two of them could be each other's “person” in this vast universe. From that day on, the two were friends. More than friends even. They’d be companions until the end of time.

Would be companions. Of course, that guarantee slipped from the picture once Peace entered it.

While navigating a particularly interesting set of rifts, Hanabi and Eira accidentally found their way onto a planet known as Quescillia. After investigating a palace-like building, they found The Keeper of Life and Order, Peace. Since this was early on in the universe's inception, it took Peace for quite a loop when two random individuals somehow ended up on her doorstep. After explaining who they were and how they got to Quescilia, Peace in turn explained some simple facts about the universe they lived in and made Hanabi an offer to help him find a meaning in this life. Together, they could help maintain balance of the force of Order and preserve life itself.

Eira cautioned Hanabi against taking the offer, but he’d already jumped at taking it before Peace finished outlining the terms. This was exactly the purpose Hanabi was looking to find. If he could help in understanding life in this world and especially preserve it for hundreds of years to come, well he’d be as satisfied as he could be with his existence. Seeing that Hanabi clearly wasn’t going to budge on taking up Peace’s offer, it didn’t take much convincing for Eira to realize they were not going to be considered in this decision. Hanabi did convince Peace to let Eira join with a position as well, but Eira was about as hesitant to take it as Peace was offering it. From then on, Hanabi became Peace’s second in command whilst Eira became one of the first to join Peace’s army.

As a demonstration of Peace’s appreciation and trust, Hanabi was offered the opportunity of obtaining a symbol. Like he did before, Hanabi negotiated to bring Eira into the mix. This led to the creation of their dual symbol. Hanabi’s half, a wisp, and Eira’s half, a horn, would make together a circle. A true showcase of how the two completed each other through and through. They were companions until the end of time, weren’t they?

…“Companions until the end of time”. Well, with this decision they had made, time was sure closing on them fast.

Years would pass, The Universal War would start. As conflicts between Peace and Chaos intensified, so did the rift between Hanabi and Eira. As Hanabi sunk more and more of his time into his work with Peace, he and Eira had less and less time to spend with one another. It didn’t help that Peace harbored a dislike for Eira which spread to the rest of Peace’s court. Eira’s strength and appearance contributed to their perception as a “monstrous” individual. That plus their close relationship with Hanabi, who was clearly Peace’s favorite, was the perfect recipe for jealousy and resentment. You could even theorize that part of this dislike stemmed from Eira’s resemblance to Chaos. Whatever the true reason, Eira was alone again.

From this dislike came the moniker of “The Beast”. Rumors say that Eira alone was strong enough to take down a hundred men in one fell swoop. While you’d expect strength like this to be respected, for Eira it was constantly met with back-handed compliments and snide. When you are so deeply feared by the general populace, it makes it hard to develop any real connections. How could anyone find safety in them if all they were meant to do was cause harm? To everyone else, Eira was Peace’s “Beast” and that’s all they would ever be.

The time Eira tried to spend with Hanabi was continuously snubbed from them. Even though Hanabi tried at first to continue making room for them in their life, as they ranked up it became apparent that work was Hanabi’s new purpose. Eira began to become self-conscious, was it something they’d done to have pushed Hanabi away? The only solution they could find for their complicated cocktail of emotions would be to repress them entirely or focus them all into their training. If everyone insisted they were a beast, fine, so be it. Let them be one. But they were taking that name on their own terms. Eira was perfectly fine with letting things slip and erode, until Hanabi confronted them.

Hanabi, who had caught on by now the change in Eira’s demeanor towards him, questioned why they were so upset. Hanabi believed he was just doing what he had already promised he’d do, and he didn’t understand why Eira was pushing them away. Ironic, considering Hanabi’s neglect is part of what forced Eira’s hand in the first place. This resentful sentiment snowballed into a larger argument. The topic went from their distance, to their views on Peace, and of course from there the blame game started. Hanabi called Eira selfish, this was Hanabi’s whole life, they couldn’t just put away their work for them. Eira spat back that Hanabi had abandoned them, Hanabi was their only friend, and they had essentially forgotten all about them.

As the fight intensified however, some residents of Peace’s court caught wind of it. Informing Peace of the dispute, she became furious at what Eira had said about her and what the two had done. Of course, with all of her court watching, she had to make an example. She maintains the force of Order, after all. What else to prove that than to snub out a signifier of the enemy they were doing everything to oppose.

Peace exiled Eira. A decision made as quickly as it was administered. The biggest tragedy of all? Hanabi sat there and watched. His fear took over his judgement, and just like that, “companions forever” became but a naive pipe dream.

Now the two were truly alone. Forever.

“Never again.” Eira told themselves. Never would they trust anyone, ever again.

…Unfortunately for them, when fate leads to a group of “Warriors” to show up at their literal doorstep, they might have to reconsider that.

| 🗡️ Act 2

── ⋅ ── 𓄹 ── ⋅ ──

Eira is introduced later in the story, so they don’t have any major role in Act 1. Eira’s life post-Hanabi was, as expected, isolating. After being exiled, Eira was not allowed to step foot on any Peace-aligned planets ever again. It’s admittedly hard to find a new start when you’ve been abandoned by one of the people who keeps the universe going, but Eira eventually found one on a planet known as “Koriama”. An icy, sketchy planet that would soon become a bustling source of trade and more under-the-table deals. One of Omne’s founders, Anastasia, was an active visitor to the planet. It’s through her visitations that Eira was able to catch any wind of what was going on in the outer universe.

The Universal War would end, Omne would form. Eira rebuilt a life for themselves. They built their own home, hunted their own food, and became comfortable living in complete isolation. However, that didn’t stop them from preparing for potential visitors one day. Some part of them still held onto the hope that maybe, somewhere out there, they’d find someone to connect with at last. With the way they keep shutting people out though, any hopes of this seem impossible.

Even on Koriama, the rumors of their past life as “The Beast” followed them. Even thousands of miles away, Eira couldn’t escape Peace’s grip on them and their life. Worst of all, they couldn’t escape hearing Hanabi’s name being whispered in the same sentence as theirs. No matter how far they ran, their notoriety always caught up to bring fear towards people’s perception of them. At least being alone here meant things couldn’t get any worse though, right?

Eira’s first hint of what was to come was rumors of another riftening. That wasn’t a huge tip-off though, those came practically every year now. However, the more obvious indicator was when one day, while they were doing their regular chores inside their home, a ship landed outside. Initially, they didn’t think much of it. Probably just some people coming to visit Koriama’s Central Market. Not too unusual. They went back to cleaning.

Then they hear a knock on their door.

When they open it, they are convinced the universe is playing a joke on them.

Seven, no eight teenagers stood in front of them. One of them they recognized as Anastasia’s prodigy, but the rest were new faces to them. However, that’s not what captured their attention most. No, the thing that shook them to their core was the person leading it all.

“EIRA?”

Hanabi.

Hanabi was there, at their doorstep.

Finally, after all this time, the two reunite.

“No.”

Eira shut the door.

…However, something tells me they’d be quick to change their mind. Those teenagers didn’t have anything to do with Hanabi after all. Eira’s too empathetic to let them freeze over something they never had any stake in. They wouldn’t survive Koriama’s harsh weather alone. Ok, only for one night they could stay. Just one…

…Just one. Totally. Well, at the very least they weren’t as alone anymore. And hey, that prepping for visitors comes in handy when you’ve got to deal with 7 of them. Maybe they could teach these “Warriors” a few things, given their experience in combat it sure wouldn’t hurt to try…

…And maybe, if they let them, they could be more than a beast, and finally begin to trust again at last.

All it takes is a little bit of faith.

"...Now I want you to leave me alone!"

| ❄️ Introduction

── ⋅ ── 𓄹 ── ⋅ ──

On first impression, Eira is quiet, stoic, and elusive. They carry an air of mystery to them, especially considering their notorious past as Peace’s “Beast”. While initially distant, Eira’s colder exterior holds a profound layer of warmth underneath. They aren’t one to flaunt their accomplishments, in fact they’d rather if people didn’t know about them to begin with. Eira’s bluntness also can admittedly intimidate or even frighten some people, as it is hard to read their emotions or understand what’s going on in their head. If you give it some time though, these walls of ice melt and allow their parental, compassionate nature to shine through.

If Eira is anything, they are loyal. Those they trust are few and far between, so if you manage to get on their good side, you will have someone who’d go to hell and back for you if asked. Eira, unlike Hanabi, speaks with their actions, not words. Though they struggle to express their care for others verbally, their insistence on providing as a caregiver shows their devotion plainly. Eira is essentially another display of somewhat stable maturity for the Warriors. Their persistence and strong-will gives them the inspiration to keep fighting on as they have. They quickly become a secondary mentor for the warriors, exhibiting a lot of “tough love” towards them.

Eira’s biggest hurdle, however, is trusting in the first place. The hurt they carry from the various betrayals they’ve endured throughout their life makes it near impossible for them to believe they can be loved. To most, Eira is a monster. And people don’t love monsters. At least not ones like Eira. They carry a nauseating fear that if they let anyone in, show any hint of vulnerability, they will experience a hurt worse than the last. The best thing for everyone, including themselves, would be if they were simply left alone. They’d already tried to find companionship, and look where that got them. They were never going to make the same mistake ever again.

…If Eira were honest though, all they want is to be able to love another again. They loved someone once. Loved them so deeply, they wanted to spend their entire existence with them. If only they could feel that way again. The so-called “admiration” they received from their past as “The Beast” was nothing in comparison to how it felt when they were with him. If only they hadn’t met Peace. If only. Then maybe things could’ve turned out better for the both of them.

Unfortunately for Eira though, in order to trust another, they have to confront the person who broke it in the first place.

| 🗡️ Act 2

── ⋅ ── 𓄹 ── ⋅ ──

When the Warriors show up at Eira’s place during Act 2, it throws them for a loop to say the least. While Eira obviously does not want to share a space with the person who had abandoned and betrayed them at first, Eira’s empathy towards the warrior's situation made it so Hanabi could stay on a strict but simple condition. No talking one-on-one. Group conversations would be inevitable, but outside of the warriors, Eira doesn’t want to know a thing about Hanabi ever again.

Finally forced to confront their past head on, Eira has to be vulnerable for the first time in years. And honestly? It’s terrifying, and they are really bad at it. Especially at first. It takes them a while to really get how to talk to the Warriors properly. Their blunt form of speaking heavily contrasts with most of the Warriors' more colorful conversations, so it isn’t shocking to say it took them a while to adjust to such a thing.

However, with the Warriors Eira starts to find a family for themselves. They begin to cherish them more than anything in the world. That love grows bigger than their resentment for Hanabi, and it allows them to start engaging with him in at least a somewhat more manageable fashion. Especially once Eira realizes the warriors have symbols and has to work with Hanabi in order to teach them how to tap into them properly. Things were finally starting to look up for the two of them. Of course, there wasn’t true trust just yet, but they could at least be on speaking terms, right?

Then, during a confrontation with one of the Omne founders, Hanabi throws Eira for a loop again. He calls them his “friend”.

Friend. Friend? Are you kidding me. Friend? After everything they’d gone through…had they forgotten…?

And just as quickly as they start to connect again, the same patterns begin to arise once more. Boundaries get crossed, past wounds forgotten, and Eira is right back to believing Hanabi can’t be trusted. Things even get to a point where Eira tries to leave the warriors to continue their journey without them, as to not allow their tension with Hanabi to interfere with their mission. The warriors obviously protest this and push the two to communicate and resolve things properly. Not with a sweeping of the past under the rug, but by acknowledging the hurt and finally understanding the other side.

Eira initially just wanted to run away again. There was no point in salvaging this. They had made the mistake of believing they could have a different life. That they could find companionship again. That was their fault. They were a fool.

And if they were anything in this world, they were absolutely Peace’s Beast.

…Someone had an issue with that sentiment though.

As Eira expressed this to Hanabi while cornered in a tense situation brought upon by their bitter fighting, he retorted back that no, none of this was their fault. When Hanabi finally recognizes his complacency for what it was, and is able to reassure Eira that none of this was ever their fault, Eira can finally believe him when he says he’s sorry. Through Hanabi’s accountability, Eira is not forced to forgive, but is allowed to move on. By finally having their hurt recognized, Eira could see they were able to be loved after all.

And by taking responsibility, Hanabi allows Eira to reach out a hand to trust them again. Could they be the way they used to be? No, never. But they could try something new.

Maybe “Companions until the end of time” wasn’t such a pipe dream after all.

🗡️ personality

Complicated.

Eira and Hanabi, like their symbols, are two parts of the same whole. Their history with one another is deep and tragic. You could’ve called them soulmates, at least before Peace came into the picture. When she did, the two began to drift apart, eventually ending in an explosive end to their relationship that ended with Eira exiled and Hanabi getting the “purpose” he was looking for. Hanabi spends many years harboring deep guilt about what happened with Eira, and Eira reasonably resents Hanabi for what they’d done. If they could meet again, could they fix what has been broken? Or would that only tear them further apart. With the Warriors at least, the changes coming their way are far from predictable.
(Mild Spoilers for Act 2)

Eira and Hanabi reunite in Act 2, though admittedly not under the best circumstances. After Eira takes the warriors in, they initially make a point to remove themselves from Hanabi as much as possible. Eventually though, the two begin slowly talking bit by bit again. For a moment, it seemed as if things were finally being repaired. Of course, though, as Hanabi jumps to call Eira their “friend” in a confrontation with the Omne Founders, it throws Eira for a loop. After Eira tries to leave the warriors so as to not interfere with their relationship with Hanabi, the two are finally forced to talk about what had happened all those years ago. Once Hanabi is able to finally take accountability for his actions, and Eira is properly able to explain their hurt, the two see each other again and last and start to love one another again. They couldn’t be the same way as before, but they could make something new. They’re older and wiser now, this time perhaps they could love each other as they wanted at last.
Mutual Hatred

Peace and Eira share a mutual hatred like no other. Especially once the Universal War starts, Peace cannot help but see bits of Chaos reflected in Eira. The two have never liked each other much, and even the warriors being important to both of them isn’t enough to get Eira to forgive Peace so easily (as deserved). Of course, Peace is forced to make amends eventually, though not in a way most would expect. How does she do it? I can’t say! It’s a secret for now. If anything's true about the two of them though, is they are forever bonded in a twisted way. Eira, to many, will always be Peace’s Beast.

❄️ trivia + memorable quotes

| trivia

They are the only main Bewilthred character who wasn’t originally designed by me.

They are the tallest member of the main cast.

As you’d expect, they are EXTREMELY strong. Like, able to lift up a boulder without breaking a sweat strong.

They rarely take off their face mask…I wonder what’s underneath it…

Their voice’s accent is similar to a Slavic one.

Hanabi and Eira’s horns are inverses of one another!

They have a striking resemblance to Chaos despite not actually being related. Unfortunate.
