Flavor Profile

The fandoms I tend to be in are usually all-ages media. While I lean towards teen/adult oriented media nowadays, a lot of my oldest/favorite fandoms were from when I was younger so there’s a few children’s media picks in here. It’s really funny to have shit like breaking bad and my little pony back to back I know but sometimes that’s how it shapes out man. I prefer video-oriented media but I especially love anything that tries to be multi-media.

I like a lot of ships! I’m a moderate multishipper and I’m not all that picky as long as I can see a dynamic working. I do tend to gravitate to having a specific choice pairing for specific series though (example: I’m not averse to RGU pairings where Utena and Anthy are paired with someone else, but I will always default to Utenanthy as my #1 in the end.). I love when people use shipping to explore the nuances of characters, if anything I’m in it for the character study of it all…the kissing is cute too though.

I value media literacy and taking work in good faith, I really dislike when people assume malicious intentions solely based on their impulse reactions of disgust to a work. I believe that anyone can do anything they want forever, however if you are putting any work of art out there it will be subject to perception and critique and you must assume responsibility for what that entails. The right for something to exist isn’t the same as saying something is of significant moral or artistic merit.

To quote a previous blog post on the matter of censorship in fiction:

I just think a lot of it stems from a lack of taking work in good faith or being fair to it's authors. So yeah, my line for it is that it constantly changes based on the work. I think that's how it should be for most everyone, but also I'm not your parent, do whatever you want forever. Just don't hurt anyone while you're doing it.”

The thing I ultimately care about most in stories is usually the characters or thematic values of the story. I am not a lore guy in the sense that I don’t like nitty gritty worldbuilding details. More power to you if you do! I am absolutely a lore guy in the sense of complicated character relationships and history though. Claim your I survived the FNAF fandom badge here.

Most of my ship enjoyment can be boiled down to one of the characters strongly complimenting/bringing about change in the other in some way. If they’re just plain cute or nice I tend to be less interested. I also tend to see myself in/project onto at least one of the guys. That’s not even intentional that just happens a lot. Many such cases. Usually my ships are monogamous but I’m not opposed to poly shipping. The main issue I find with poly ships is that they tend to be written in a way to bandaid fix love triangles or wanting everyone to be together rather than like, actually fleshed out dynamics between each of the members and caring about how they function for one another as a unit. When it hits though it hits.

I care very little for name order. I lean towards ship names based on how good they sound…a betrayal to the ancient texts I KNOW! …but I can’t help it! I respect those who care about it. I just...don’t. I prefer both of them being able to switch dynamics anyways, more fun that way! You could classify me as a Turtle in the cute little Kankai Na Fujoshi chart. I love those animals they’re so silly!
